Not From Concentrate

This big juicy reflective collection on my counter was too lovely not to commemorate. You can't see it, but there is actually a persimmon in the way back holding the green apple up.

I love apples so much, you guys.

Gifts and Green (they love each other and they love our team)

Lilies from my birthday present and some lovely apples that I inhaled shortly after immortalising them in paint.

Take a Deep Breath

Took a break today and painted a landscape. It's been a rather arduous few days and I needed to make myself a little retreat. Who wants to set up a picnic here with me?

A Bowl of Cherries (and what you make of it)

I know, I cheated; it's in a frame, so of COURSE it looks better.. But hey, it's my birthday and I do what I want.

Today I turned 29, and I feel like I've not gotten older so much as levelled up. Life is a bowl of cherries, friends. And I'm so lucky to have you all in mine.

Pre-Pesto

Yes, my very first basil! I'm starting to see each of these paintings as more of lessons than necessarily triumphs or failures. I hadn't painted basil before, but now I understand it far better than I ever did. I'll have to paint it again to know for sure.

Also, if you were curious, that tomato actually *was* that round. It was almost off-puttingly perfectly round.

What did I do this week, anyway?

What did I do this week, you ask?

Oh, a little of this...

Blue Lemonade

Little Palette Cleanser Demo (it looks much more green and orange in real life)

... A little of that...

Flow Drawing at the Aberdeen Wellbeing Centre

And even a little bit of this!

Oil Painting Fundamentals at the Rosemount Community Centre

So I may have been absent, but I've been just as busy as ever. New paintings will be coming soon! I hope to get 4 paintings done this week. Wish me luck!

Oops-a-doodle!

Taking a week off; classes are starting this week and I need to prepare.

More paintings are coming, though. They are!

Little Blue Candleholder

Sorry she's late, folks. This is my little blue candleholder hanging out a lemon and a few clementines (as she often does). Next week will have fewer paintings; I'm going to be starting two new classes and I'll also be working on my manuscript. Have a great week, everyone!

Fuscia and Orange

Loved painting this little guy this morning. Can't wait to get it photographed a little better; I love my little 5c very much, but it gets a little overwhelmed when I paint with high-contrast colours!

This isn't oil!

No painting today, on account of my fulfillment of a life drawing commission for coloured pencils. I am not a fan of working in coloured pencils (really, I haven't ever been very good at them), but it feels good to branch out every now and again, and I'm sure not complaining about getting a commission!

Guapea

Had a lot of fun with this little guy today. And afterwards, I made a massive spicy salsa salad. I have always loved tomatoes.. I think I'm going to be painting quite a few in the upcoming year or two!

I'm not even close to where I want to be as an artist right now, but I feel even more confident in this piece than I did in my very first, 5 days ago. I'm excited to see the things I'll be doing 5 days, 10 days, and 20 days from now.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join me on this journey!

Orange Orange Moon

So last night's moon was absolutely RIDICULOUS. Hubban and I decided to take the long way back (along the beach of the North Sea) after picking up a few groceries and things (finally got the cat a scratching post).. Turns out, the moon was both enormous and absurdly orange. It was reflected on the water so very clearly along the waves, and the ships out on the horizon almost looked like a little city. So tonight's fun little painting is an homage.

Weekend Update

(or, Why I Didn't Post This Weekend)

I feel like every 3 or 4 months I need to remind myself that I am horrible at painting landscapes from photographs.

Yesterday was one of those reminders.

So I won't be posting that, but I can assure you, it was painted. Today has been a lovely Sunday full of tying up loose ends (and walking all the way to The Range to gather materials for a new commission! Yay!), so I will be working on digital paintings (specifically a business card commission) today as my daily painting in order to recover from yesterday's less-than-stellar work.

Thanks for your patience. Tomorrow's painting should be a hoot!

(Also, for those of you who are sticklers about this sort of thing, I should let you know that I only intend on painting on days where I am not otherwise massively occupied with self-employment-related endeavours!)

Three Fruits and a Bulb

It is becoming more and more common knowledge that avocados are a fruit, but did you know that cucumbers are also fruits?

...You did?

Oh..

Well, me too!

I realised that I had the same problem today as I did yesterday, in that about 20 minutes in, I really wanted to consume my subject. Thank the gods I'm doing still lifes, or I'd really be in trouble.

A Cuppa Eggs

Here it is! My very first in a series of daily paintings. I highly recommend, for anyone else out there with daily painting intentions, to make two cups of tea if you intend on painting one of them. Not being able to take sips of this cup of this milky tea while painting it was way more agonising than I had anticipated.

However, starting and completing a painting within the same day certainly was a delight! I'm quite excited to continue!
